Russell Hoban, ‘Frances’ Author, Dies at 86
We say goodbye today to Russell Hoban, a phenomenal poet-in-prose (and sometimes verse) and writer of the memorable Frances books with Garth Williams’s and Lillian Hoban’s wonderful illustrations. Hoban ably bridged children’s and adult literature throughout his career.

A personal note: While the New York Times obituary (linked above) points to Riddley Walker as Hoban’s “greatest triumph,” I will also remember Hoban for his supremely beautiful book The Mouse and His Child.
